COURSE DESCRIPTION

 

BTEC Higher National (U.K. Level 4 and 5) and designed for students who wish to pursue or advance their career in the Construction industry. The qualification is a Higher National Diploma in Construction and the Built Environment (Surveying) delivered through Pearson (Edexcel) of U. K. and successful students can find employment in the construction industry or progress to a top up degree in Engineering Survey, Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering or Construction Management. A choice of optional subjects is available for the students’ selection dependent on the student’s ultimate selection of the desired pathway. The program of study comprises of two segments – U.K. Level 4 and Level 5, both spanning over a period of two years – four semesters.

 

The purpose of BTEC Higher Nationals ion Construction and the Built Environment (Surveying) programme is to develop students as professionals with the ability to meet the demands of employers in the industry sector and adapt to a constantly changing and competitive world. The qualification will provide progression to higher education and enhance the career prospects.

 

On successful completion of the programme the student will be able to:

  • Enter new employment
  • Advance in the current employment
  • Progress to a higher qualification such as a degree

 

The program is made up of 240 credits over a two year period. The programme of study comprises of Core and Specialised Units which are mandatory and Optional units. All units carry 15 credits or multiples thereof. The total Qualification Time for the BTEC HND is 2,400 hours and comprises of Guided Learning, Directed Learning (unsupervised learning, course work, e-learning etc.) and invigilated assessment. The Guided Learning Hours for the programme is 960 hours and include all forms of learning supervised by a tutor.

 

During the first year the Learner will study 8 units with 15 credits each totaling 120 credits and eligible to receive the Higher National Certificate on successful completion. The Learner will study a further 8 units with 15 credits each totaling 120 credits during the second year.

 

The units are designed to meet the skill needs of the sector and the specialist units allow coverage of the full range of employment within the sector.
